EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The team at Katharine House Hospice is enthusiastic about palliative care education and the consequent improvement in care for patients and their families.  The hospice therefore offers a range of educational opportunities to doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and care assistants with an interest in palliative care.

These opportunities include short courses which run throughout the year, some are for nurses and allied health professionals and some are for care assistants.

One of these courses is an introduction to palliative care, when issues from symptom management to spiritual care are explored.  Another course is devoted to communication skills.

The hospice team also offers educational opportunities to doctors.  These are delivered either in our teaching facility at Katharine House, or at the Horton Hospital or alternatively at a venue that is convenient to participants.

Likewise the community nurse specialists (Macmillan) periodically deliver relevant sessions to community, hospital or nursing home colleagues within the geographic area that the hospice officially covers and in response to identified need.

The Katharine House team is linked with its specialist palliative care colleagues across the county through the Oxfordshire Palliative Care Education Group (OPEG), and with national hospice and palliative care networks.

We are always happy to consider any palliative care education needs that you may have so do get in touch if you wish to discuss them.

For further information on our current programmes or any other educational enquiries please contact Angie Robinson at the hospice on 01295 811866.
