THE COMMUNITY MACMILLAN NURSES
Macmillan Nurses are specialists in supporting patients and families facing illnesses such as cancer. They work as part of the health care team to ensure that the quality of life for patients and families is enhanced. Therefore they are complementary to existing services. They are specially trained to offer advice on pain and symptom control, and also offer emotional support for the patient and family within their own homes. Not all patients with cancer need a Macmillan Nurse and it is usually the case that the General Practitioner or District Nurse has asked the Macmillan Nurse to meet the patient and family.
The Macmillan Nurses covering north Oxfordshire and south Northamptonshire are employed by and based at Katharine House Hospice.
The nurses work Monday-Friday 9am – 5pm
